Student Choices

You can not tell me that this piece does not grab the eye, it is interesting and very unique. I like it for many reasons. One reason is because this vase is something that you wouldn't see everyday. If I walked into some one's house and I saw a crazy looking face, well, I would surely be surprised. Also, I like how it is not symmetrical. Your eyes have to look at each individual detail because absolute nothing is the same. I hope that I have enough time during my pottery to try and make something similar to this.

Artist Statement

I'd like to think that I know my self completely. However, the plain blank truth is that I do not. I have noticed though that when it comes to art, I am interested in many different things. Looking back throughout my blog, I have realized that I love strong contrasts, patterns, colors, emphasis, and line. I am drawn to bold differences because I know I am a very bold person. The main reason I like bright colors is because I think that they are fun and beautiful to look at. I know for a fact that I am a very outgoing person and I am fun to be with for the most part. Also, I think that I am someone who is bold and stands out in a crowd. There is much emphasis in my life, just like a plain white plate with a huge red heart in the center of it.
 ginkgo bowl

I think that these two pieces of pottery really reflect my life in many different ways. I the outside of the piece is very neutral, however there is a couple bold flowers that surround it. I am a calm person when get to know me but when you first meet my I am very bright and life-like.

Types Of Contrast

Strong Contrast
This piece of ceramic has a strong contrast because the red and the black are very bright and opposite . Your eyes jump from the two different colors due to the fact that they are such opposites and contrasting.

Subtle Contrast
These pieces of ceramic have a very subtle contrast because the colors fade into each other making a smooth transition and interesting view to the eyes.

Forms of Balance

Symmetrical Balance
Symmetrical balance is when  there is a near or exact matching of left and right sides of a three-dimensional form or a two-dimensional composition. This piece is exactly the same on all sides, I think that the design is also very interesting.

Asymmetrical Balance
This means that  the placement of non-identical forms to either side of a balancing point in such a way that the two sides seem to be of the same visual weight. This piece is not identical however, it sis asymmetrical.

Radial Balance
This is when the balance as the result of components that are distributed around a center point or spring out from a central line. In this piece, the ceramic has a center point and the designs go out word from this point in a organized fashion.

Textural Pottery

I really like this piece because it reminds me of the ocean. It's texture is outstanding and eye drawing. At the top of the piece there are many semi-large holes and then throughout the piece there are smaller ones as well. This piece looks like a stone sponge and is shaped as a pot, which is very interesting.

Hand Built Pottery

This piece is beautiful for not only it's color but for its shape. The pottery is made coil style, I know this because you can see the lines from where the coil is built up. I love how the piece is so large on the bottom then becomes smaller towards the top.

I really like this piece of pottery because it looks very antique. I really like the colors because they go so perfectly together. I know that this piece is slab built because it is very square and I search for a slab built piece of pottery online. It has a flat cover and beautiful handles.

Ceramic With Line

I really love this piece of pottery for it  rustic, yet elegant feel. I like how line  is used in this piece because it isn't just straight and boring there is life to it because of the motion and texture it has.

I also really enjoy this ceramic piece because of it's complexity and impressive line designs. I think that it would be interesting to see if I can maybe do a piece more complicated as time progresses and I become a more skilled potter.

For some reason, I am so interested in artist that take everyday items and create a piece of work out of them. This sculpture is cut up newsprint, with other different kinds of magazines then put together to create a gorgeous flower. It is so simple, yet it looks so beautiful

Flowers

I really like these two large sculptures because they are made out entirely of flowers and plants. Instead of these pieces of art work being a different material, and shaped into flowers; these sculptures are flowers shaped into different things. They are rather colorful and beyond interesting to look at. That is what makes them so enjoyable.

"7 Petal Fun Flower" by Delbert Beckham
This is a beautiful piece of artwork. It looks so elegant, however rustic. I really enjoy this peice because it looks so aged and interesting. Another sculpture I really like is this "Fedral Triangle Flower" located on the Woodrow Wilson Plaza.
This is a gorgeous piece of work because it is so large an interesting

Odd Sculpture Creations

The Butter Women

I am not sure who sculpt this amazing women. But what I do know is that it is made out of butter. I really enjoy this piece because it has so many details and is so unoriginal. I really like how she is laying down, fast asleep. What I don't understand however, is how this sculpture doesn't melt? I would assume that it has to be in a very cool temperature room.

Zuni Fetish Sculptures

Zuni Festish Animals

This is a Snake sculpture that is about 2.38" high, the sculpture is unknown. I actually really enjoy this piece because instead of it being sculpt as just a place snake slithering through the ground, this snake has life. It is ready to attack.

I also really enjoy this Zuni Fetish sculpture. Again, who ever created this piece is unknown. What I like about this piece of work is that there are so many small details involved. Whether the details be the color or the texture, this sculpture is very impressive and creative.

Aluminium Can Sculptures

The Canstruction Organization

It is real amazing how many things you can sculpt out of an every-day drinking can. Surfing on the Internet I found dragons, butterflies, cars, snakes, birds, deer, and anything the mind can possibly imagine that were made out of aluminium can! It did take awhile for me to find one specific artists how crafted sculptures such as these, but I feel that this organization called, "Canstruction" really does a fantastic job creating life-like or even the most random pieces of art! The interesting thing about this group is that every piece of art they do, they cans are full. They actually donate there pieces of food/art to needy shelters! What I like about this piece is that, to me, it represents love and family. Not only is the art portion of it wonderful but it also sends a message!

Cédric le Borgne

This is an iron sculpture built by and European artist. I really like this hanging sculpture because its so simple, yet very appealing .

Paper Artists

Bert Simons
Bert Simon's work catches my eye because his paper sculptures are so realistic. However, even though they are just 'paper people' they each have their own characteristics. To me, looking at these pieces of work that Simon's did, I get inspiration. This artists seems to be able to put every piece of detail of the human face into his paper sculptures. If you look, you can tell that the three men all have different sized noses, ears, chins, ext.

Brian Dettmer
To me, Brian Dettmer looks as if he could be one of the most talented sculptures. Dettmer makes three dimensional art pieces that pop out at you. This artist catches my eye because his sculptures are so different than others that I have seen. Even though this art piece just looks like a black and white news paper, I can also see a story being told. This sculpture has so many different things that are going on, yet it is not to heavy to look at and not boring what so ever.
